David Picton is a founding partner of Picton Mahoney Asset Management. He serves as the firm’s President and CEO, while also maintaining high-level oversight of its equity solutions. Regarded as a leading authority on global equities and alternative investing, David is often invited to share his insights on investment strategies, alternative investments, and their role in portfolio construction. He is also a regular contributor to industry associations and media outlets on market conditions, monetary policy and the macroeconomic outlook.
David has been a prominent presence in the Canadian investment industry for several decades. He launched Synergy Asset Management in 1997 and worked as its lead Canadian momentum portfolio manager, until CI Financial acquired Synergy Asset Management Inc. in 2003. Prior to that, David spent eight years as the Head of Quantitative Research at RBC Dominion Securities, where he was one of the top-ranked analysts in his sector.
David holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia.
Dean Shepard is Picton Mahoney’s Chief Growth Officer and a member of the Senior Leadership Committee. As an investment industry veteran with over 25 years’ experience, Dean is a tireless advocate for alternative investments in Canada. He represents Picton Mahoney across the investment industry, driving corporate development and partnering with industry associations to raise awareness and provide education about alternative investments. He brings together thought leaders, industry partners and C-suite executives to help investors better understand alternatives.
Dean joined Picton Mahoney in 2006 to head up sales and marketing, about 10 years after successfully launching a boutique investment firm with David Picton. In the early years, he single-handedly managed all sales and marketing activities across both institutional clients and investment advisors. Since then, he has expanded the sales and marketing operation, enabling the firm to grow from a boutique investment firm to one of Canada’s leaders in alternative investments. A firm believer in the importance of portfolio construction, Dean helped to establish the firm’s foundational focus on portfolio construction, which later evolved into the Portfolio Construction Consultation Service.
Dean holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of British Columbia and is a CFA charterholder. He sits on the Member Advisory Panel of the Canadian Association of Alternative Strategies & Assets (CAASA), and is actively involved in the CFA Society of Vancouver’s Speakers Committee. Dean has been a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) since 2009.
Michael is Picton Mahoney’s Chief Revenue Officer and a member of the Senior Leadership Committee. With nearly three decades of experience in Canada’s wealth management industry, Michael is at the forefront of innovation in the retail financial market, leading the development of innovative products and services to benefit retail investors. His strategic acumen and exceptional leadership make him a valuable industry spokesperson. Since joining Picton Mahoney as a Managing Director, Head of Retail Business in 2020, Michael has played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s sales operations and championing service excellence. Prior to that, he has held positions at renowned firms like Iress Canada, Richardson GMP, Macquarie Private Wealth, Merrill Lynch, CIBC Wood Gundy and others. While at Richardson GMP, Michael led the Wealth Management division following the acquisition of Macquarie, where he served 200 wealth professionals and developed integrated wealth service models. At Macquarie, he built a team that contributed to substantial growth in assets under management. Michael holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Business, University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts from Western University. He previously obtained the FCSI (Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute) designation and the CIM (Chartered Investment Manager) certification.
Arthur Galloway is Picton Mahoney’s Chief Operating Officer, a member of the Senior Leadership Committee, and Vice-Chair of the firm’s Advisory Board. With more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, Art is responsible for overseeing key strategic business activities and orchestrating corporate functions across the organization.
Art joined Picton Mahoney in 2005 and was among the firm’s first employees. In his 18 years at the firm, he has been instrumental in developing many of the firm’s foundational processes and capabilities. He has managed the growth of Picton Mahoney from a boutique investment manager to one of Canada’s leaders in alternative investments. Prior to joining Picton Mahoney, Art was a Director at Investors Financial Services where he oversaw the fund administration and custody operations for several global mutual fund clients.
Art holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Brock University, and is a CFA charterholder.
